Why Wilfred Mott is one of my favorite companions: Wilf is so similar to the Doctor - both have seen so much. All the heartache, all the losses… but also all the beautiful things from the world. I think that it’s fitting that the Doctor uses one of his regenerations for the man who is so like him, but so human at the same time.
